Located in the beautiful Missouri Ozarks region, Dogwood Canyon
is home to nearly 2 miles of Dogwood Creek's crystal clear trout water.
This spring fed creek offers the accomplished fly fisher and the newcomer an
experience they will never forget as they take on our resident Rainbow trout. Our guided fishermen and Orvis students are averaging 3lbs in their
individual fish and on one occasion an 10lb rainbow tested the breaking strain of a 4x
leader! Check out my equipment recommendations and fly recommendations for fishing this wonderful
spring creek fishery.
Our Post Graduate photo gallery is testament to what
our students have been up to since their school. Many students have asked
for a demonstration casting video and you will now find one posted on the School
Video page.
We will begin our eighth year of Orvis Schools shortly and
the first school is scheduled to commence on April 3rd. Last season's
"Bring a friend" program
proved to be a great hit during the year and we have decided to continue the
option again this season. So be sure to take advantage of this opportunity
and visit
the Orvis website or our 2010 school dates link to decide on which school you would
like to help you
on the journey towards a fun activity that will take you to beautiful places.
As a
testament to the success of our Orvis Schools we would like to offer the
following:
Over the past 10 years I have "dabbled" in fly-fishing and acquiring bad
habits. Also, I just didn't have the "passion" for it that I had hoped I
would. I had attended an Orvis Fly Fishing School in Glen Rose Texas many
years ago and did not come away feeling that I had really learned that much.
However, this past weekend opened a whole new world for me. It definitely
lit a fire in me, regarding this sport, and I have Keith Oxby to thank for
that. It was poetic how he described the presentation of the fly to the
fish.
Not
only is he knowledgeable about the sport he is an exceptional teacher and a
person can have great technical expertise, but if you can't teach it to
someone else then why try to be an instructor. But with Keith I saw not only
his passion for the sport but for his desire to truly help those of us with
minimal to none experience. He was kind, patient and direct. Which are
wonderful qualities. His class consisted of 2 people who had never even
picked up a rod and then a female who had minimal experience and another
gentleman who had much more experience and each of us came away with so
much!! I truly enjoyed discussing the equipment, knot tying, the cycle of
the hatches etc. Also, he videotaped us casting which was tremendous
help.
To
me it isn't totally about catching the fish, it is about the experience
and mastering your craft. So thank you so very much and know that it was a
wonderful experience.
Sincerely, Vickie Meyers, Abilene, TX
